Cape Town’s Trains Are Bursting At The Seams!

May 19, 2017

The Cape Town train system is in dire need of help… take a look at how the Cape Town’s train system is literally bursting at the seams!

“The demand for services far exceeds the available train supply as a result of decades of disinvestment in rail and unprecedented growth of informal settlements.

“The continuous theft or vandalism of assets, mainly cables and other metal bearing components has led to a situation where services have generally been unreliable and therefore not meeting customer expectations,” said Kayster.

And then you hear the government wants to spend millions on bicycle lanes in the Cape Town CBD!

Rather spend that money on fixing up the infrastructure for the poor… bicycle lanes in the CBD is purely a luxury that the middle class will enjoy.

Clearly you do not travel with the trains. Not all these people don’t have tickets. Most days trains are late, many are canceled and so they are too full. So people will hang on the trains anywhere they can just to make it to their destination. I have done this before and I paid my fare. Many people are fed up with the lateness of the trains or the cancellations, so they don’t buy tickets. Don’t spout crap when you don’t know anything.

Would you believe that the old SAR actually operated a solitary double decker passenger carriage on the Cape Town suburban railway lines prior to 1960 . . . it ran between 1924 and 1960. About 4-years ago, design schematics of a new generation double decker carriage. based on the design and chassis of an existing and proven freight carriage operated overseas, was shown to several officials at City of Cape Town as well as MetroRail/PrasaRail.
