This Is What A Typical Water Collection Point Will Look Like For Capetonians!

November 17, 2017

This is what a typical water collection point will look like for Capetonians, but only if the supply of water becomes dangerously low and the taps are turned off!

But Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille, says the City’s pushed it’s projected drought “Day Zero” up to the 13th of May 2018.

De Lille has revealed that if the metro’s dams reach the 13.5% level, almost all of the City’s taps will be switched off to keep essential services running.

The municipality says if “Day Zero” does happen, people will have to queue for water at 200 sites across the metropole.

According to the City’s plan, each person will be given 25 litres of water per day.

But the Mayor says “Day Zero” can be avoided, and they’re hard at work on seven projects, including desalination.

A reservoir and aquifer have already come online, pumping out seven million litres of new water every day.

“As we bring additional supply online from February onwards with more new water coming online in the months thereafter, Day Zero will be pushed further.

We have already brought additional water from the Molteno Reservoir in Oranjezicht and the Atlantis Aquifer, with two million and five million litres per day from these sources respectively,” says De Lille.

The Mayor’s thanked Capetonians for saving water.

“Most residents are saving water but we need every single person to use the prescribed 87 litres per person per day. If we don’t have everyone restricting their water consumption, we will reach Day Zero in May”.
